viñu-vinu is the electronic music alias for Montreal-based pianist, keyboardist, composer and producer Gabriel Vinuela. The name viñu-vinu pays homage to Gabriel’s Chilean heritage and comes from the francization of his father’s last name: Viñuela to Vinuela. Within this project, he often explores in music subjects and aspects of origin, identity, changes, evolution and human relationship to his surroundings and nature. Gabriel works with synths, keys, field recordings and a wide array of sampling technics to produce atmospheric and lively instrumentals, where rich harmonies and melodies mix with textural electronic experimentations.

As viñu-vinu he has released three EPs: Echoes from Afar (Mystery Circles 2018), Encounters (Mystery Circles 2017 / Best Electro EP Nominee at GAMIQ 2018) and Études-Tableaux (self-released 2016). Last summer, he also released Borderless (Seil Records 2019), a piano improvisation and modular synth ambient collaboration with Chilean producer Nico Rosenberg. The last two years, viñu-vinu performed sets at La Nuit Blanche - Festival Montréal en Lumière, MUTEK Montréal, Suoni Per Il Popolo, Congrès Mondial Acadien-Acadie Rock, Pop Montréal and L'OFF Jazz Festival de Montréal. Gabriel is also a Banff Centre for the Arts and Creativity alumni, where he attended the Banff Musician in Residence program in 2017 and 2019.
He also participated in a creative residency at Le Centre d’Expérimentation Musicale de Chicoutimi in 2019, where he started his work and research on a new project called Exilio Transitorio. Gabriel is currently finishing the production and mixing of the Exilio Transitorio LP, which should come out later this year.


viñu-vinu est l’alias du pianiste, claviériste, compositeur et producteur montréalais Gabriel Vinuela pour sa musique électronique. Le nom viñu-vinu rend hommage à ses racines chiliennes et provient de la francisation de son nom de famille, Viñuela à Vinuela. Ce projet explore en musique les sujets de recherche d’identité, de l’origine, de la transformation et de l’évolution.

Manipulant les claviers, les « field recording » spontanés et autres « samples » déconstruits, il créé des harmonies et des mélodies riches qui s’entremêlent aux expérimentations électroniques plus texturales. viñu-vinu a sorti quatre albums à ce jour : Borderless (Seil 2019), Echoes from Afar (Mystery Circles 2018), Encounters (Mystery Circles 2017) and Études-Tableaux (self-released 2016). Il a également sorti quelques singles sur les labels Unlog, Space Lounge et Mystery Circles.

En 2019, viñu-vinu a participé à des résidences de création au Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity et au Centre d’Expérimentation Musicale de Chicoutimi. Il a présenté des « live » à L’OFF Festival de Jazz Montréal, Pop Montréal, Festival Acadie Rock/Congrès Mondial Acadien en 2019 et à La Nuit Blanche - Festival Montréal en Lumière et MUTEK Montréal en 2018. Gabriel est également le pianiste et co-leader du Parc X trio (2010 TD Grand Prix Jazz du Festival International de Jazz de Montréal) and co-fondateur du label Multiple Chord Music.
